T 6 Krivodol – Primary school “Tin Ujević”

Osnovna škola u Krivodolu nosi pjesnikovo ime. Zauzimanjem Anđelka Gudelja Velage, nastavnika i kulturnog djelatnika, pred školom je 1977. postavljeno Tinovo poprsje u bronci, rad Ivana Vukušića. Godine 2011. poprsje je otuđeno, a počinitelj ostao nepoznat. Nekoliko godina prazni postament svjedočio je o nemilom događaju. Novi portret u kamenu, rad mladog kipara Stipana Kujundžića, postavljen je 2015.

O nastanku Vukušićeva Tina u 22. broju Imotske krajine Davor Jerković piše: U to vrijeme, tj. oko godine 1950-e, mnogo sam drugovao s kiparom Ivanom Vukušićem i Ivicom Podlogarom, a u odnosu na pok. Tina, bili smo nas trojica u to doba poput njegovih vjernih „ministranata“, ili bolje „mušketira“.

Tinova „lavlja glava“ i sadržajem bogata fizionomija Vukušića je kao kipara toliko zaokupila, da je poželio izraditi Tinovu bistu, a Tin se opet sa svoje strane obavezao da će redovno dolaziti Vukušiću u stan na poziranje. (…) Kako je, pak, Vukušić upravo đavolski brzo stvarao, noseći katkad u džepu malo gline, te modelirajući i za kavanskim stolom zbog-radi šale po neku zanimljiviju fizionomiju, to je i pok. Tina za nepuna dva sata već načelno, odnosno u glavnim konturama „uhvatio u glini“.

Od toga časa datira vjerojatno i najvrjednije priznanje koje je Vukušić u svom životu dobio, a koje mu je sigurno bilo milije i od priznanja samog, tada također živućeg velikog Meštrovića, kad je pok. Tin, već nakon spomenuta dva sata poziranja, spontano i srdačno uzviknuo: „Gospodine! Ja se prepoznajem!“

Koju godinu kasnije, još uvijek za Tinova života, posredovanjem mojim i nekolicine Tinovih štovalaca u Imotskom, bronzani odliv spomenute biste otkupio je u Imotskom mjesni Socijalistički savez, pa ta bista još i danas dolje u nekom komitetskom ormaru sabire prašinu, umjesto da bude postavljena na mjesto vidljivo i dostupno javnosti.

Drugi bronzani odliv biste otkupila je knjižara i antikvarijat „Tin Ujević“ na Zrinjevcu, pa tako još uvijek, niti nakon 15 g. od Tinove smrti nema nigdje njegove biste na javnom i otvorenom prostoru ni imotskog, ni zagrebačkog, pa niti „spljetskog perivoja“.

Ivan Vukušić: Tin

Godinu-dvije nakon Jerkovićeva članka Imotska krajina objavljuje apel, sada već zaboravljenog gimnazijskog profesora umjetnosti Ivana Vladića Ike, u kojem oštro kritizira nemar struktura te poziva na sastanak Inicijativnog odbora za postavljanje biste koji će se održati 8. veljače 1972. godine (utorak) u 19.30 u hotelu Imota.

Plemenita je inicijativa propala: bista je ostala gdje je i bila sve do 1974. U međuvremenu je u Osnovnoj školi u Krivodolu odlučeno da škola nosi pjesnikovo ime, a bista biva posuđena za prigodnu svečanost. Poslije toga neko je vrijeme stala u školskoj zbornici. Nitko ju nije tražio. Nakon podosta petljanija Anđelko Gudelj Velaga Đelo, tadašnji ravnatelj, uspio je privoljeti nadležne službe da se bista postavi pred školom (1977.) kao najprikladnijem mjestu.


The primary school in Krivodol bears the poet’s name. Thanks to the teachers and cultural worker Anđelko Gudelj Velaga Tin’s bronze bust, the work of Ivan Vukušić, is placed in front of the school. In 2001 the bust was stolen and the thief still remains unknown. The empty plinth has witnessed the incident for years.A new portrait in stone, the work of young sculptor Stipan Kujundžić, was placed in 2015.

Davor Jerković writes about the creation on Vukušić’s Tin in the 22nd issue of Imotska krajina: At that time, around 1950, I spent a lot of time with the sculptor Ivan Vukušić and Ivica Podlogar and we were like Tin’s loyal “musketeers.”

Tin’s “lion’s head” and rich physiognomy captured the sculptor Vukušić so much that he wished to make his bust and Tin committed to come regularly to Vukušić’s place to pose. (…) But Vukušić created very quickly, he would sometimes carry a bit of clay in his pocket and shape some interesting physiology as a joke, so he “captured” Tin’s main contours in clay in less than two hours.

At that moment Vukušić received the most valuable recognition in his life,which was surely even more favorite than the recognition of the great Meštrović, when Tin after the already mentioned two hours of posing exclaimed spontaneously and warmly: “Lord! I can recognize myself!”

A few years later, at the time of Tin’s life,and with mediation from myself and a few other admirers of Tin in Imotski, the Socialist Union of Imotski repurchased the bronze model of the mentioned bust so it is still gathering dust in some committee closet instead of being placed where it can be seen.

The other bronze model of the bust was bought by bookshop and antique shop “Tin Ujević” in Zrinjevac so 15 years after Tin’s death there’s still no bust of his in a public and open place in Imotski, Zagreb nor “Split Parks”.

A year or two after Jerković’s article Imotska krajina publishes an appeal of the already forgotten highschool art teacher Ivan Vladić-Iko, in which he sharply criticizes the negligence of the authorities and requests a meeting of the initiative committee for placing the bust on February 8, 1972 (Tuesday) at 19,30 in the hotel “Imota”.

The noble initiative obviously didn’t give a result, the bust remained where it was until 1974. In the meantime it was decided that the primary school in Krivodol would bear the poet’s name so the bust was lent to the scool for the opening ceremony. It remained in the teacher’s lounge for some time. Nobody asked for it. After many difficulties the director Anđelko Gudelj Velaga-Đelo got the consent of the authorities to place the bust in front of the school in Krivodol and it was finaly placed there in 1977.

IVAN VUKUŠIĆ rođen je u Živim Bunarima kod Jablanca (općina Senj) 18. prosinca 1922. Djetinjstvo i mladost obilježeni su mu brojnim seljenjima. Obitelj se na kraju skrasila u Zagrebu gdje je Ivan upisao strojarstvo. Pred kraj studija okreće se kiparstvu, hvatajući se u koštac s portretima. Slovio je kao veliki talent, no uskoro dolazi u sukob s izvjesnim ljudima iz umjetničkih krugova te napušta Zagreb i odlazi u Düseldorf. Zanemaruje kiparstvo i prihvaća se slikarstva, pobirući pozitivne kritike za svoje izložbe. No, povijest se ponavlja, nakon sukoba s galeristom prestaje izlagati a rijetko i slika. Umire u Düseldorfu 26. travnja 1981.

Ivan Vukušić was born in Živi Bunari near Jablanac (Senj) on December 18, 1922. He moved a lot during his childhood and youth. The family finally settled down in Zagreb where Ivan went to engineering school. Near the end of his studies he turns to sculpture, getting into grip with portraits. He was reputed as a great talent but soon he comes to conflict with certain artists and leaves Zagreb and goes to Düseldorf. He stops sculpting and turns to painting, getting positive comments for his exhibitions. But,as history repeats itself, after a conflict with a gallerist he stops exhibiting and he rarely paints. He dies in Düseldorf on April 26, 1981.

Stipan Kujundžić

STIPAN KUJUNDŽIĆ rođen je u Imotskom (Grubine) 1982. Polazi Školu primijenjenih umjetnosti u Splitu. Školovanje nastavlja 2001. na Umjetničkoj akademiji Sveučilišta u Splitu, smjer kiparstvo (profesori: Aleksandar Miđor, Nikola Džaja, Kazimir Hraste, Kuzma Kovačić). Diplomirao je 2006. u klasi prof. Matka Mijića.

Sudjelovao je na više skupnih i nekoliko samostalnih izložbi. Posebnost se njegova rada očituje u oblikovanju i izradi glazbenih instrumenata.

Stipan Kujunžić was born in Imotski (Grubine) in 1982. He attends the School of Fine Arts in Split. He continues his education at the Academy of Arts, turning to Sculpture (professors: Aleksandar Miđor, Nikola Džaja, Kazimir Hraste, Kuzma Kovačić) at the University of Split, in 2001. He graduated in 2006 in the class of prof. Matko Mijić. He has participated in many group and independent exhibitions. The particularity of his work is reflected in the modeling and making of musical instruments.

U nekoliko hrvatskih gradova i mjesta postavljeno je devet spomenika pjesniku Tinu Ujeviću. Ubrojimo li i onaj devastirani ispred krivodolske škole, od njih deset tri su u Krivodolu.

Prvi postavljeni spomenik 1957. zapravo je spomen-ploča na rodnoj kuli u Vrgorcu, zatim je 1977. u Krivodolu postavljeno pjesnikovo poprsje te, recimo glavna, skulptura 1980. u Imotskom. Slijedili su potom ostali spomenici, a posljednji je postavljen 2016. u Makarskoj.

Monuments to the poet Tin Ujevć are placed in several Croatian cities and towns, a total of 9. If we add the destroyed one in front of the school in Krivodol, there are 10, three of which are in Krivodol. The first placed monument is a commemorative plaque on the “native” tower in Vrgorac from 1957, followed by the poet’s bust in 1977 in Krivodol, while the statue placed in Imotski in 1980 is called the most important monument honoring the poet. Other monuments followed,the last of which was placed in Makarska in 2016.

Kad je riječ o kiparstvu, svakako valja istaknuti Ljevaonicu umjetnina „Ujević“ i njezinog vlasnika Damira Ujevića koji je sudjelovao, i vjerojatno će i dalje sudjelovati, u realizaciji spomenika Tinu.


Numerous painters and sculptors from Imotski,academic and amateurs alike, often find their inspiration in the famous Tin.Besides the previously - mentioned Marija Ujević, Kruno Bošnjak, Stipan Kujundžić and Ljubomir Žužul and Petar Ujević, Ivan Kujundžić, Mate Turić, Ante Ljubičić Car, Nedjeljko Šuvar Denis Kujundžić-Polo, Vicko Kavelj, Augustin Ago Kujundžić, Eleonora beba Zujić, Ante Ujević, Julija Stapić, Vesna Ujević… When speaking of sculpture, it is certainly necessary to ponit out the foundry of artwork “Ujević” and its owner Damir Ujević,who has participated and will probably continue to participate in the realization of Tin’s monuments.

The commemorative plaque in Vrgorac was made by the sculptress Marija Ujević-Galetović while she was still studying at the Arts Academy in Zagreb (1957).

Marija Ujević - Galetović

MARIJA UJEVIĆ-GALETOVIĆ najpoznatija je hrvatska kiparica i akademkinja. Rođena je u Zagrebu 20. 10. 1933. Diplomirala je kiparstvo na Zagrebačkoj akademiji likovnih umjetnosti 1958. u klasi profesora Kršinića. Od 1987. radi na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti, a 1995. dobila je status redovne profesorice i u mnogo navrata bila pročelnica Kiparskog odsjeka. Redovita je članica Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti. Svoje znanje i talent usavršavala je i u inozemstvu u priznatim kiparskim školama.

Roditelji Marije Ujević-Galetović bili su profesori, a otac dr. Mate Ujević (rođen u Krivodolu) bio je i jedan od pokretača Hrvatske enciklopedije.

Izradila je spomenike Antunu Gustavu Matošu i Augustu Šenoi u Zagrebu, Miroslavu Krleži u Opatiji, Franu Petriću na otoku Cresu i Jakovu Gotovcu u Osoru. Poznata je i njezina skulptura Trkač u Zagrebu te spomenici Steriji Popoviću u Novom Sadu i Don Boscu u malom mjestu Žepče, spomenik papi Ivanu Pavlu II. u Požegi, a na Kaptolu spomenik Jurju Križaniću. Jedno od najvažnijih djela svakako je skulptura u zagrebačkoj crkvi svetog Pavla i Vrata raja, vrata za katedralu sv. Terezije Avilske u Požegi. Osim u Hrvatskoj i susjednim državama njezine se skulpture mogu pronaći i u Beču, Moskvi i New Yorku.

MARIJA UJEVIĆ GALETOVIĆ is the most famous Croatian sculptress and academician. She was born in Zagreb on October 20, 1933. In 1958, she graduated at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in the class of professor Kršinić. Since 1987 she has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, where she was appointed full professor in 1995. She is also an active member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.She has perfected her knowledge and her talent in many foreign schools of sculpture.

Marija's parents were professors and her father, Mate Ujević (born in Krivodol) was one of the initiators of the Encyclopedia.

She is the author of monuments to Antun Gustav Matoš and August Šenoa in Zagreb, the monument to Miroslav Krleža in Zagreb, the monument to Frane Petrić in Cres and the monument to Jakov Gotovac in Osor. Her other notable public sculptures include the sculpture Runner in Zagreb, the Sterija Popović monuments in Novi Sad, the Don Bosco monument in Žepče, the Pope John Paul II monument in Požega and the Juraj Križanić monument in Kaptol. Among her most famous sculptures are the sculpture in the church of St Paul in Zagreb and the Gates of Paradise in the cathedral of Santa Theresa de Avila in Požega. Her sculptures can be also found in Vienna, Moscow and New York.

Petar Ujević

PETAR UJEVIĆ rođen je 1960. godine u Krivodolu. Diplomirao je kiparstvo 1984. na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu (profesori: Branko Ružić i Želimir Janeš). Radio u Jadran filmu na izradi kiparske scenografije. Od 1981. sudionik je brojnih skupnih i samostalnih izložbi te autor niza skulptura u javnim prostorima. Dobitnik je nekoliko nagrada za svoj rad. Samostalni umjetnik od 1995.

Petar Ujević was born in Krivodol in 1960. In 1984 he graduated sculpture in Zagreb, at the Academy of Fine Arts (under professors Branko Ružić and Želimir Janeš). He worked at Jadran Film Studio creating the sculptural scenography. Since 1981 he has had many solo and group exhibitions and has created many public sculptures. He has recieved several awards for his work. He has been active as an independent artist since 1995.

Ivan Kujundžić

IVAN KUJUNDŽIĆ rodio se u Imotskom 1968. U rodnom je gradiću pohađao osnovnu i srednju školu. Studirao je u Zagrebu na Pravnom fakultetu, no već nakon prve godine prekinuo je taj studij jer se htio pripremiti za studij kiparstva na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti. Uspio je upisati ALU, gdje je diplomirao u kiparskoj klasi prof. Jančića. Veliki broj njegovih djela nalazi se u crkvama i na javnim prostorima. Voditelj je zagrebačku galeriju Forum i izlagačke djelatnosti u KIC–u.

Ivan Kujundžić was born in Imotski in 1968. He attended primary school and high school in his hometown. He studied at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb but after the first year he dropped out because he wanted to prepare himself to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts. He succeeded in getting into the Academy and graduated in the class of professor Jančić.Many of his works are placed in churces and public spaces. He is manager of the gallery Forum and the exhibition activity at „KIC“.

Mate Turić (Mata Croata)

MATE TURIĆ (MATA CROATA) suvremeni je hrvatski likovni umjetnik, akademski kipar. Rođen je 1987. u Zagrebu. Diplomirao na ALU-u u Širokom Brijegu. Izlagao na brojnim izložbama u domovini i inozemstvu. Prepoznatljiv je po svojim kamenim jedrima.

Mate Turić (MATA CROATA) is a Croatian contemporary artist, academic sculptor. He was born in Zagreb in 1987. He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg. He has participated in many exhibitions in his homeland and abroad. He is distinguished for his sails of stone.

Ante Ljubičić - Car

ANTE LJUBIČIĆ – CAR rođen je 1955. u Runoviću. Gimnaziju je završio u Imotskom, a Akademiju likovnih umjetnosti u Sarajevu 1980. u klasi profesora Ljubomira Perčinlinća. Imao je preko 30 samostalnih izložaba a sudjelovao na pedesetak skupnih. Radio je dvanaest godina kao profesor povijesti umjetnosti u Imotskom.

ANTE LJUBIČIĆ-CAR was born in Runović in 1955. He finished high school in Imotski and the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of professor Ljubomir Perčinlinić in Sarajevo in 1980. He has had more than 30 solo exhibitions and participated in 50 group exhibitions. He was a professor od Art History in Imotski for 12 years.

NEDILJKO ŠUVAR rođen je 1954. u Zagrebu. Završio školu primijenjene umjetnosti, a na ALU diplomirao 1981.

Nediljko Šuvar was born in 1954 in Zagreb. He finished the School od Applied Arts in Zagreb and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1981.
